Economy

What is Economy about? Cities are at the forefront of economic changes and development. Yet, many old recipes to boost urban economy have been found to have their limits as they are unsustainable or benefit just a small group. In recent years, peer-to-peer markets, collectively known as the sharing economy, have shaken the established models and disrupted transportation, accommodation and an array of other sectors. Also new proposals from the bottom-up, such as Produsage, based on open participation and communal evaluation, are thriving with the implicit commitment to increase equity, sustainability, resilience and diversity. Yet, this dynamic urban economic landscape grows on a world stage committed to the UN's Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and a new methodology to respond to current public procurement issues. How can governments address these challenges while funding their smart initiatives? Is there room for a more proactive urban policy to grasp emerging opportunities?
